English Bulldog Mugs

This English Bulldog was our 1st dog when I was a kid. Mom was afraid of dogs so dad thought this dog would cure her! The worst thing I remember this dog doing is biting the tax collector in the seat of the pants when he was inspecting our property.

Snuggles

I saw Snuggles by the road when we went to visit my friend Denise. She ask her neighbors about him, and it turned out they wanted to give him away. He was a feisty little Yorkshire Terrier with a spunky personality!
Sambo would be laying quietly resting. Snuggle would come along and run circles around him, growling softly as he went around, and around, and around. This went on for several minutes until Sambo had his fill of this little punk. All of a sudden Sambo would spring to life and throw him down, grab him and shake him around, growling ferociously! Snuggle would be terrified and lay there on his back, waiting for it to end. Sambo would leave. Snuggle would continue to lay there on his back. In a little while he would very cautiously and slowly look around, and then get up. Soon he would go and find Sambo and this would start all over again!

Moe's First Winter

The first year of Moe's life we had a little snow fall. Moe had been tied out on his run when it began to snow. He was very excited to see white stuff falling from the sky. We had a great time watching him chase the snow flakes and try to bit them.

The Pit Bull and the Doberman

Our two medium size Terriers, Charlie Brown and Sambo had many adventures together. We lived out in the country and had a few neighbors around. The people that lived across the creek had warned everyone about their chained dogs, a Pit Bull and a Doberman. They would attack animals and people. Meaning, stay away......dangerous dogs!!
One day my husband was outside, when he noticed Charlie Brown and Sambo take off running down our driveway. Looking to see what was happening, he noticed the Pit Bull and the Doberman loose on the road. He watched amazed as Sambo chased the Doberman up the road, and Charlie Brown chased the Pit Bull down the road. The Pit Bull turned into a driveway and hid behind the blackberry bushes. Charlie Brown, feeling proud of himself, turned around and strutted proudly back up the road with his head held high. The Pit Bull peeked out from behind the bushes, and then it was like he tip toed, seeking up on Charlie Brown. He got behind him and let out a growl. Charlie Brown flopped over on his back, and then the Pit Bull turned and walked away. It was almost like he was laughing. Charlie Brown walked up the road toward home, and then up the driveway, with his head down and his tail between his legs. When my husband spoke to him, he just continued dejectedly to a hiding place in the wood shed.

The Cat that raised Charlie Brown

We got the girls two Siamese Cats but one of them died before Charlie Brown came. This is the one that would take Charlie Brown under its care.

They loved dogs. Here they are cuddling with a dog we took care of for a few months.

More of Moe!

Moe loved to be in the kitchen when I was cooking. He would jump up and hit me in the back of the knees all most knocking me down looking for a treat.

Beautiful September day!

Moe enjoyed having his picture taken.

Moe the Dog

My oldest Son bought Moe for me. My husband named him after Moe in the Three Stooges. He was a Yorkie-poo/Poodle mix and a bundle of energy. He really loved my oldest Son and when ever he would come over he would run in circles and do a little dance to express his joy. The grandchildren spent many happy days with Moe. Dress up day with the Grand-kids.
We all loved Moe and felt terrible when he disappeared one Halloween Night.

Donald Plants Pumpikins

Each year we plant a garden one year to our surprise the entire garden was taken over by pumpkins. It turns out our son had gotten two packs of pumpkin seeds at school that he planted with out our knowing. He was very proud of his pumpkins.

Feathers and Don checking out their pumpkin patch.

The large pumpkins made great pies and the small ones cute decorations.

Hey can I have one!

Dog Team on the Yukon River

Me on the River
Cowboy and his Dog Team

One Winter we lived in our Log Cabin at Swede Creek. These are a few photos of a Dog Team that would go by our place at the junction of Swede Creek and the Yukon River. The rivers freeze solid and become the highway system in the North. Dog Teams were used as a mode of transportation by some of the Sourdoughs. Cowboy lived up the River many miles from us.

Healthy Pet Food

My friend the owner of Diamond J's Maltese brought me some pet food samples from HealthPetNet a few months ago. She knew I was concerned about the quality of the pet food from the grocery store and felt I would be happy with the pet food from HealthyPetNet. After I had read the ingredients on the label and checked out the information on the web iste I was happy to have a good source of healthy pet food. As Trixie came to our home over weight I bought her Life's Abundance weight-loss food for Adult Dogs and she has been eating it ever since. As a treat I give her Life's Abundance canned dog food, she loves the dry dog food but the canned food makes her dance with anticipation.

Resently I decided to sell the pet food myself as it is something I trust and feel confident recomending to others. HealthyPetNet supplies: dry dog food, canned dog food, heart healthy treats, health bars, dog dental treats, dog vitamins, dried cat food, canned cat food, cat treats, cat vitamans and much more. All the foods are made with healthy wholesome ingredients, no artificial color or flavors, no corn, no wheat and no glutens. Click on over to bedandbreakfastpetfood.com for some free samples. I think you will love it as much as Trixie and I do.

Black Sambo

After we had Charlie Brown a couple of years we got another dog. He was a cute long haired black dog that had been dumped by someone up our country road. We saw him hiding in the brush and we were worried about him so for several days we brought him food and tried to befriend him. He must have been abused by the one that dumped him as he had a real fear of people. After a week he began to trust us and one day he came to our home by himself. From then on he was part of the family. My son wanted to name him after his favorite book so he became "Black Sambo" or Sambo for short. Charlie Brown seemed to love him just as much as the rest of us and they became good friends. They spent many a day digging moles, running around our 8 acre property, laying in the sun and occasionally getting themselves in trouble. They made a good team when it came to digging moles. Charlie Brown would take the right side and Sambo the left, then they would dig toward the center until they had the mole. This kept the moles in check but did a number on the yard.

Charlie Brown

When the kids where young my husband got them a puppy from some folks, their dog had just had pups and they were looking for homes for them. When the little puppy came home the children were so happy and excited. Then it was time to name him, the three children all said "Charlie Brown". Knowing they were thinking of the dog in the Charlie Brown comic strip we said you mean "Snoopy", but they were not to be persuaded so Charlie Brown he became. The girls all ready had a Siamese cat and she took Charlie Brown under her care, bringing him mice to eat and sleeping with him in his dog house. Because of this Charlie Brown always loved cats and all the cats we had from then on where taken care of by him. This made the cats acts a lot like dogs.

We have many fond memories of Charlie Brown during the years he and the children grew up together. Charlie Brown was a faithful companion and friend.

Dogs and Organic Gardening

We love to have a garden and through the years it has been a learning experience. The addition of compost, leaves, and manure are a must. Our dogs always check what we're doing right from the beginning, when we first begin to dig. There is much to be said on this subject of gardening! I have found an interesting site at www.organicgardening.com
One year our dog Charlie Brown, a Terrier mix, helped harvest some little cabbages. As the children sat in the grass dipping cabbage leaves in mayo and munching them down, he joined right in.
Many weeds were pulled with a dog sitting near by.
Digging potatoes was a game for Moe,our Yorkie-poo. He would race around barking as we dug and potatoes appeared. One time he grabbed a potato and ran around the yard with great delight!

Tainted Peanut Butter can make your dog ill.

Saw this in Today's Register-Guard: "Pets have joined the list of those falling ill from salmonella-contaminated peanut butter. The Oregon Public Health Division reported on Friday that a dog in Douglas County caught the bug after eating a tainted dog biscuit."  Click here for complete article.
